We all have a song, or songs, that touch us. That song that feels like it was written just for you. It’s no secret I love country music, it’s probably what I listen to most. One of my current favorite singers is Cole Swindell and we were lucky to have tickets to see him last Friday at the Strawberry Festival in Plant City.
His newest song, You Should Be Here, get me every time I listen to it. Maybe it’s because Cole Swindell wrote it after losing his dad and because the words hit home so much. Or maybe it’s all the emotion behind the words. I am always thinking that my dad should be here and that is exactly the meaning behind the song. And it will come on the radio when I need to here it most. But hearing it live hit me so much more to it than I thought possible. It really hit home.
You should be here, standing with your arm around me here.
Cutting up, cracking a cold beer, saying cheers, hey y’all it’s sure been a good year.
It’s one of those moments, that’s got your name written all over it.
And you know that if I had just one wish it’d be that you didn’t have to miss this
You should be here.
You’d be taking way too many pictures on your phone.
Showing them off to everybody that you know back home.
And even some you don’t yeah
They say now you’re in a better place
And I would be too if I could see your face.
And the video, oh boy. It is a tough one to watch. But it reminds me that it’s okay to want my dad to be here, it’s always okay. This will be the song that forever reminds me that my dad should be here. There is so much he is missing out on by not being here, even though I know he is watching over us. But man, it would be nice to be able to have him here and sit with him and talk.
Daddy, you should be here….
