Another week, another runner! I love meeting and getting to know other runners on the interwebs and hearing about how they got into running. Every one has a story to tell. Nicole is a blogger too, and I love the name of her blog – Nic’s Bloggy Blog. She’s a mom who runs, swims, and bikes!
When did you start running? Started running in college when I found myself having some time on my hands. Couldn’t tell you if it was from skipping class or freedoms of being in college 🙂
Who or what inspires you to run? Although I started running back in college, it didn’t become a passion until after my back surgery in 2008. Running and triathlons represents full recovery to me. Very grateful that I am able to have a healthy body and cross the finish line with a smile.
What is your favorite running mantra? Slow and steady finishes the race.
What is your favorite running or fitness blog? Hands down: http://breeweehawaii.blogspot.com/ – she is a pro triathlete living in Kona Hawaii. She shares her struggles and triumphs openly while always finding the silver lining in everything.
What is the first race you ever ran? A 5K at Ohio State in 2000. It ran around campus. I remember it rained (like a sprinkle) but I thought I was so awesome for still running it “in the rain”. I also sported a yellow Sony radio armband.
Name one thing you learned from your first race? Ehh… that was so long ago, I don’t know if I can remember anything specific.
What are you currently training for? I am doing a half marathon this weekend, the F3 lake Half Marathon in Chicago. The forecast high is 26 with a low of 7! BRRRRR!!!! When did I think it was a good idea to sign up for a half marathon in January in Chicago!!!
What one piece of running gear you cannot live without? I have two things I always run with…. My Headsweats visor and my fanny pack. I never used to run with a fanny but it has become one of my best friends. I can easily carry my phone, credit card, and nutrition.
**Nicole has been gracious enough to share a coupon code for Headsweats if anyone is interested in purchasing one! The coupon code is CHITRI25 for 25% off your order!
Share one piece of advice to new runners… Definitely get a proper shoe fit by a running store. One that measures your gait and watches your stride. Most stores will offer this service for free with the purchase of a pair of shoes. I did not do this right away and ended up with a stress fracture!!!
Other things I do for fun… I love triathlons, golf, crafting and movie nights with my family.
