I’m still very excited about this new feature on my blog. This week is all about Beth! Beth is another local runner, blogger, and friend who I have known for about a year now. She is one of the first bloggers I met at the very first local blogger get-together I went to. Over the last year, we have seen each other at several races, blogger get-togethers, and a hot yoga class or two. I look up to Beth for being the awesome runner that she is. And, I will never forget what she told me when I was whining to her at hot yoga one morning about really wanting to do a full marathon but being really afraid. Her words of wisdom…. “It’s just running.” She is so right…. No need to make a big deal out of it! See, Beth is awesome!
When did you start running? I’ve always sort of dabbled in running. I ran middle school track and in high school and college I’d run a 5K here and there. But, I’d say I seriously started running in 2009, before my first marathon.
Who or what inspires you to run? I’m inspired by people who have physical or mental disabilities who run and complete triathlons despite the odds. I try to remember these folks when I am having a tough day or tough run.
What is your favorite running mantra? I’ve said it before on my blog and it’s super cheesy but I repeat “Strong. Powerful. Tough.” Over and over. These are three words I have a hard time seeing in myself so I try to use them to keep me going.
What is your favorite running or fitness blog? I know this is dorky but I really love my friend’s blogs. I read all of them. Although, I have to say that I immediately read Katie’s Run This Amazing Day when I see a new post is up. She’s such a great writer and always makes me laugh.
What is the first race you ever ran? I can’t really remember to be honest. I used to just run 5K’s on a whim and they weren’t anything special because I didn’t train for them at all! I am sure it’s one that’s somewhere on athlinks. Lol!
Name one thing you learned from your first race? Well, since I can’t remember my first race, I’ll go with my first marathon. I learned that you must train. And you must specifically train for marathons or they hurt real bad.
What are you currently training for? My 7th marathon, Jacksonville, and a 5K swim.
What one piece of running gear you cannot live without? Probably my Garmin. I love looking at my paces and splits.
Share one piece of advice to new runners… I already said train, so let’s go with – don’t forget to use Body Glide! Just kidding. Seriously, don’t take it too seriously. We do this for fun!
And for fun… What do you like to do besides run? Uhmn, is sleep an answer? I’m currently really tired. Ha! I do love reading and watching Netflix. I’m catching up on the Dexter series right now and recently binged on Orange is the New Black. I’m reading the Game of Thrones books.
