It has been much too long since my last Runners Who Rock post! Has it really been since before Thanksgiving that I did one? There was so much going on with the holidays, but I am happy to bring it back!
This week, the spotlight is on Angela over at HappyFitMama. She’s a mom to twins, enjoys yoga, likes to blog about meal planning (which I love!) and is a runner.! Let’s meet Angela…
When did you start running? I started getting serious about running about 3 years ago, soon after my kids were born. I was just a casual runner who did a couple of races and a few miles here and there before that.
Who or what inspires you to run? My health, mentally and physically, inspire me to run. Running has brought so much to my life – time to think, time to push myself and to find my potential.
What is your favorite running mantra? Don’t think. Just do. I tend to over think things.
What is the first race you ever ran? The Seacoast Half Marathon was the first race I ever ran. I went straight to the half distance and have loved it ever since.
Name one thing you learned from your first race? Pacing…it’s something that I’m still trying to work on seven years later!
What are you currently training for? Getting a healthy, uninjured foot/tendon. I’m slowly easing back into running after taking 6+ weeks off from running. I don’t have any races on my schedule just because I want the focus to be on how I’m feeling rather than jumping into “training” mode. I’m hoping for a great running year whether it’s running a 5k, 10k, half marathon or a marathon. I just want to run!
What one piece of running gear you cannot live without? Good shoes. It doesn’t matter the brand just as long as they make my feet feel good.
Share one piece of advice to new runners… Run your own race. It’s very easy to fall into the comparison trap. I still do it every once in awhile. But really it’s all about what your abilities are at that time. Everybody is different.
And for fun… What do you like to do besides run? Laugh and smile (a lot), hike, cycle, snowboard and bake.
