Listening to my body

Yesterday, I completed Day 1 of Week 2 of bootcamp and felt great. Well, I was tired, sweaty, and sore, but great. This morning, as I was getting ready, I felt a pain head straight down the back of my leg, starting on my hip. NOT good. I knew what it was, even though I’ve not ever really had a problem with it. I consulted Dr. Google and confirmed my theory that it’s sciatic pain. It’s been bothering me all day long. I’ve taken aspirin, a hot bath, and as recommended, I looked up piriformis exercises to stretch out that nerve and I’ve done them.

I’ve had my issues with back pain. I’ve thrown out my back a few times over the years, just from moving the wrong way. I am always aware of my lower back and I try not to make any sudden movements that might send me reeling from pain or muscle spasms. Been there, done that. When it happens, I rest, ice, heat, ibuprofen or aspirin, and wait for it to heal. It always does, even if it takes time. I am fortunate (knock on wood) that I have not had that happen in over a year now.

Here’s the thing… I am TERRIFIED of even the thought of going to the chiropractor. Hubby has does it, and he always feels great after. I know other people who have gone. Many people go. But not me. The thought of being adjusted and hearing pops and cracks and such is enough to make me want to faint. And I have a fear of them doing something wrong, leaving me in even more pain, or worse.

So, I have to listen to my body. I did not do bootcamp today. I am hopeful it will feel better tomorrow so I can do something. Fortunately, I can modify the cardio and workouts as needed to fit my needs. The important thing is to take care of my body. It won’t get me anywhere to ignore it and keep pushing myself.

Have you dealt with sciatic pain before? Or do you have any tips or advice on how to get me to a chiropractor?

  1. I have never had to deal with sciatic pain but my mum has so I know it sucks so I feel your pain, I have also never seen a chiropractor so can offer no tips with that either. I will say I hope the pain doesn’t last to long

    1. It. Is. Painful. I really thought it was feeling better yesterday, but it seemed aggravated this morning. I must have slept wrong. I need to get past this, I have bootcamp to do!
