Friend Makin’ Mondays: My Community

It has been a LONG time since I did a FMM post… I read this post on Kenlie’s blog this morning and also saw that Melissa did it as well, so here’s mine!

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

My Community

1. Where were you born? Did you grow up there?  I was born in Long Beach, California and lived there till I was 3. I’ve lived in California, Texas, Maryland, and Florida. And an interesting fact, I’ve lived in each state twice.

2. Tell us about your favorite spot in your city.  Living in Clearwater, FL, I am a sucker for the beach – palm trees, water, sunrises, and sunsets. However, the only time I get to the beach is when I’m running the causeway very early on a Sunday morning, or on the 4th of the month when my mom and I go to Crystal Beach for sunset in memory of my dad. Tell me this isn’t a breathtaking sunset…

3. Do you volunteer for any organizations? If so, will you tell us about it?  Hubby and I very much like to help out and wish that we had the time and money to do more. We’ve volunteered for Habitat For Humanity through his work, we collected and donated bikes to Toys For Tots last holiday season, and we were just approved as a “big couple” for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

4. Tell us about your favorite local restaurant.  I’ll probably get some laughs out of this one, but we love Hooters, and the original one is not far from us. I am absolutely a beer and wings girl and they are our favorite. There is also a little BBQ restaurant about 20 minutes north of us called The Ozona Pig (which we lovingly call The Pig). The pulled pork is AMAZING.

5. Has your city ever experienced tragedy?  If so, how did it recover? . I’ve been here 20 years and we’ve seen our share of storms, and one year we had 4 or 5 hurricanes.

6. Share at least one unique thing about your neighborhood.  When we bought our house in 1993, we were told they were going to put a county park adjacent to our street corner on what had to have been the largest empty lot still in our county. Finally, the park opened in 2010 and we love it. It’s so nice to have a park within walking distance of our house.

7. If you could do one small thing to change your community, what would you do?   Trying hard to stay away from politics, but being a small business owner myself, I think it would be nice if Clearwater were a little more business-friendly.

8. The Powerball is currently up to 400 million dollars. Would you move to a different place if you won?  Hubby and I both moved around a lot when we were younger, so when we bought our house, we knew we would be here for the long haul. If we won the Powerball (please, oh please, let us win!!) we would fix up our house the way we’ve wanted to since we bought it and pay it off. We’d be set!

Friend Makin’ Mondays: Christmas Questions

Christmas Questions

1. How will you celebrate the holidays this year?  At my brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Jenna’s house with their daughter Autumn. We always enjoy time at their house. My mom and sister will also be there.

2. What’s the weather currently like where you live?  Not at all Christmas-like. It’s been 80-ish and humid. I hope it changes. It was so nice for Thanksgiving and then it warmed up.

3. Do you decorate your home for the holidays? If so, share a picture please!  Oh yes. The tree goes up the weekend of Thanksgiving and I have many ornaments and decorations that I love.

4. What is your favorite Christmas movie?  Elf and The Christmas Story are super high on the list, but I also love classics like White Christmas and Holiday Inn. Love Actually is also wonderful.

5. What is your favorite Christmas songs?  This is a hard question! It might be better to say which ones I don’t like… My favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night, it’s so beautiful. I am currently in love with my Michael Buble Christmas CD and I love all Christmas songs by Harry Connick Jr.. Really, I could listen to the swingin’ Christmas station on Pandora all day long  – Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin, and more….

6. Do you have an advent calendar?  I do not! But I think it’s a fun idea.

7. Do you prefer color lights or white lights?  For our tree, I love white. For big Christmas displays, I love white, blue, and all colors. I am a sucker for Christmas lights.

8. What is your favorite food to eat over the holidays?  All things sweet.

9. Do you display a live tree, or do you prefer fake trees?  We have a fake tree, pre-lit. It’s the way to go. Super easy and the lights are better than I could ever do if I put them on. Although, I will always have fond memories of the year we bought a live tree and hubby put the whole bottle of Christmas tree preservative in the water. That was THE greenest tree ever and it probably would have survived the whole year had we not gotten rid of it.

10. What would you need to make your holiday perfect this yearHubby and my boys are all I need for Christmas, but I also do treasure the extra family time we have. I wish more than anything my dad could be with us for his favorite time of year, but I know he is with us.

Friend Makin’ Mondays: What’s In Your Fridge?

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. What’s in Your Fridge?

1. List a few common items that can always be found in your fridge. Boneless skinless chicken breast, baby carrots, grapes, hummus, small baking potatoes, zucchini, mushrooms, eggs, and butter.

fridge collage

2. What kind of milk do you drink?  Either fat free, 2%, soy, or almond. It all depends on what I’ll be using it for and what kind of mood I’m in. But I never, ever drink milk as a beverage, in a glass. I have it in cereal, oatmeal, shakes, coffee, or whatever recipes I need it for.

3. Do you prefer fresh or frozen vegetables? I prefer fresh, but I hate it when things go bad before I use them. So, frozen is what I usually get, that way I always have them on hand.

4. What do you currently have to drink in the fridge? Bottled water, ice tea (which my mom brought over and I’ll finish), Coke (BAD!!!), Gatorade (for hubby), and beer.  **I’d just like to add that we rarely have soda in the fridge, we buy it when we have certain meals, such as pizza, which we had the other night.

5. How often do you clean out your refrigerator?  As in, get rid of stuff as it goes bad? I try to do that when I grocery shop and put stuff away. Out with the old, in with the new. If you mean take EVERYTHING out, clean the shelves, etc…., I don’t do that nearly as often as I should. In fact, I need to do it now.

6. What’s the healthiest thing in it right now? Broccoli, carrots, hummus, grapes, boneless skinless chicken breasts.

7. What’s the most unhealthy thing in it right now?  Yea, that would be the Coke and the beer.

8. What do you wish you had in it that you don’t have now?  I think it’s pretty stocked right now. Anything else I wish I had in it I probably don’t need.

9. How often do you shop for groceries?  I try to shop only once a week, usually on Sunday. But, there are times that I have to go mid-week depending on what we’re having that I may have forgotten or want to get fresh.

10. What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge right now?  Nothing weird in there, that I know of.

Bonus: If you could choose one thing to put in the fridge and make it calorie-free what would it be? Cappuccino Fudge Blitz ice cream from Publix. Oh my, that would be fabulous.

Now it’s your turn! Don’t forget to answer the questions and come back to post a link in the comments section! Happy Monday!

Friend Makin’ Mondays: Blog Stuff

Blog Stuff

1. Have you ever met anyone through your blog that led to an in-person friendship/relationship?  I have met a wonderful group of women here in the Tampa Bay area when I joined a local blogging group, the Tampa Bay Lady Bloggers. If I did not have a blog, I never would have met them.

2. Most bloggers have a specific niche. What would you discuss if it didn’t seem inappropriate on your blog?  There are things I want to discuss that are of a family matter, but I feel it’s not the right place, so I don’t.

3. If you could meet three bloggers, who would they be?  Oh goodness…. There are so many. I’ve already met so many wonderful bloggers in our blogging group. Each one of them is an inspiration. Obviously I would want to meet Kenlie at All The Weigh. Her blog is great, she’s an inspiration, and she shares fun posts such as these FMM posts. I would also like to meet Colleen at The Fit Bee. She is my ultimate running hero and has been through so much and is an amazing inspiration for weight loss and fitness. The third blogger I’d like to meet would be Hemarie at I Sweat Pretty. Her posts are funny and witty and I think we’d get along great!

4. If you had to choose between Facebook or Twitter which one would you choose?  Probably Twitter, as far as blogging goes. I do love Facebook and it’s only the past year that I’ve really started using Twitter. I think Twitter is more blog-friendly as far as communicating with people.

5. Do you vlog (video blog?) I have not. I love it when people do this because it makes it personal and shows a different side to them. I think it’s a great idea and maybe one day I’ll get up the nerve to do it.

6. How many blogs do you read on an average day?  It depends on how much time I have. I usually read a couple in the morning and some while I’m eating lunch. If I had to give a number, I’d say 20? I don’t always comment though, which I need to be better about because I want people to know I’m reading their blog.

7. What is the coolest thing that you’ve seen online recently?  One of the blogs I follow written by a friend I made by way of infertility message boards is pregnant after soooo many years trying. Just last week they found out they were having a girl. So cool and very exciting. I look forward to her posts to hear how she’s doing and to get an update.

8. If you gave your blog a new name what would it be?  I love the name of my blog. It’s perfect for me and for what I talk about, which is all over the place sometimes. When I was thinking of names, I knew I did not want one that would limit me to a specific topic. So, I can’t even think of another name. Mine is perfect.

9. Have you ever attended a blog conference like Fitbloggin? If not, would you?  This question really could not be asked at a better time. Just this past Saturday, I attended my first blog conference, Central Florida Blogger Conference. It. Was. Fabulous. I have so much information I’m still processing and it was so wonderful to meet people and share the blogging world with so many others.

10. In the past I have asked why you blog. Now I want to know why you read blogs? What do you take from it?  I originally started following blogs in the midst of our major infertility woes. I was active on an infertility message board and found that several members had blogs documenting their journeys. While I was not in a position to be so open about our struggles and all that we were going through (procedures, tests, surgeries, financial issues, etc…), I was touched by these women who were sharing every bit of their journey.

Now it’s your turn to fill out this week’s questions! Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments! Happy Monday!

Friend Makin’ Mondays: A Little More Personal

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

A Little More Personal

1. Are you a morning person?   Not. At. All.  I do not like mornings.

2. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?   Definitely an introvert.

3. Are you addicted to anything? If so, what?   Wow, how much time do you have? Just joking. I would have to say Starbucks.

4. How many times have you been in love?  Young, teenage love – once. Grown-up forever love, once and still very much so. Smile

5. What is your position on politics?  I can’t stand politics and I really feel that all politicians are just that… Politicians. It’s not about picking the “best” one, it’s picking the one that’s not as bad as the others, the lesser of two evils. I never listen to politics on TV or the radio. It’s all nonsense.

6. Are you religious?  I believe in God but I do not go to church. I am fine with everyone having their own beliefs as long as it is not forced on me.

7. Would you prefer backpacking or a luxury hotel?  Luxury hotel, no doubt. I am not an outdoorsy girl when it comes to sleeping. I need a nice comfy bed, air conditioning, and a bathroom.

8. Do you have/want pets?  Yes, we have two crazy Australian Shepherds, Blue and Ozzie. Blue is 2 and Ozzie is 6. We live with them (not the other way around).

9. Are you a sports fan?  I like sports but I don’t watch them regularly. I used to watch football a lot. Another one I like to watch if I happen to catch a game on TV is hockey. But I don’t make a point of specifically watching sports.

10. How often do you brush your teeth?  2-3 times a day.

11. Do you have tattoos and/or piercings?  Ears are pierced (twice each) and I have 3 tattoos (ladybug on right ankle, Sammy’s dog paw on on my inside left ankle, and a memorial tattoo for my dad on the back of my left shoulder)

12. What’s your favorite clothing brand?  I am not a brand-crazy girl. I rarely buy clothes and when I do, it’s what’s on sale. I know….. BORING.

13. Should a man open doors for a woman?  Yes…

14. Which season is your favorite?  Without a doubt, fall is my favorite. I live for fall. Can’t wait to put out our fall decorations. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I love all things pumpkin. And I love that our niece’s name is Autumn. Yes, I LOVE fall!

15. Would you rather eat less or workout more?  Workout more. Any restriction I put on eating gets me nowhere except eating more.

16. What’s your idea of romance?  I think romance is being with someone who wants to be with you, who knows what you like, knows what you don’t like, and takes the time to let you know. With me, it’s all about the little things that hubby does for me. I love and adore that about him.

17. How often do you do things that are outside of your comfort zone?  Not too often, I’m a chicken. I need to change that.

18. Christmas or Halloween?  Christmas, definitely. I am not really a fan of Halloween. But the spirit of Christmas, the decorations, the music, the scents, and more…. I love it! It’s my second favorite holiday after Thanksgiving.

19. Would you rather live in the country or the city?  I would not want to live in a big city, I need my space. But I also don’t think I could live out in the country where it’s miles and miles to the store, etc…. I like the suburbs where everything is convenient and we can have a front yard and backyard.

20. Share your life philosophy.  Honestly, it’s to get through each day knowing that I tried and/or did the best I could that day and gave it my all. I carry a lot of weight on my shoulders and it’s not easy, but somehow I seem to manage it all.

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions! Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments! Happy Monday, Friends!
