I can’t believe I haven’t posted since Sunday. What a crazy week it turned out to be. Tropical Storm Debby just about drowned us and almost blew us away, finally leaving on Wednesday. Good riddance! On Tuesday, our A/C went out at home. Having to live without A/C in the summer in Florida is brutal. I don’t even want to get into that whole long story, but after 4 days of having no a/c, taking the dogs to work with me, and staying at my MILs house (very thankful we were all able to camp out there!), we FINALLY got our A/C working again yesterday.
It was my intention to be lazy inside the cool house today after the week I had. But as I was laying around reading this morning, that little voice in my head kept telling me to get up off my butt and get outside and move. So I listened. And instead of heading over to the park, I decided it was the perfect day to drive to the Memorial Causeway, just about 8 minutes from my house, and walk over to Clearwater Beach. Sometimes, it’s fun to play tourist and I never get tired of the beautiful scenery that we are so lucky to have right here in our own backyard.
It was gorgeous outside and the sun felt great on my shoulders (and my face which is now sunburn – oops!). It was definitely hot, but the view and the smell of the salty air made up for it.
This is my favorite bridge to walk over!
Isn’t the view toward the beach amazing?
That looks like fun!!
This is the boat my brother and sister-in-law got married on in 2003.
Beautiful Clearwater Beach
New Hooters and Ron Jon Surf Shop!
These people have the right idea.
I love my Gizmo to hold my key and ID.
Headed back to my car.
Proof of a great walk. 5.39 miles in 1:36
This salad was soooo good after my walk!
The rest of my day will be grocery shopping, cooking a nice dinner for hubby and I, and hopefully more reading. Now that I’ve shut up that little voice in my head, I can read without interruption. It really was a nice walk and I’m so glad I got out there and did it. I have to keep this body moving and just do it.
Tomorrow, hubby will be home so we’ll get to spend the day together. Yay!
What fun things are you doing this weekend?
It’s a rainy, windy day here in Tampa Bay. With Tropical Storm Debby hovering over us, it is the perfect day to stay home and do nothing. Well, almost… Hubby and I made a run to Starbucks this morning and we went to Publix to do our weekly shopping right when they opened. I know I’ve said it before, but I love doing our grocery shopping early Sunday mornings before the rest of the world is there. This morning was no different and I’m glad we went early because the weather has gotten worse since then. A few pictures I took…
When we got home and put away all the goodies we bought, I made breakfast (hubby’s choice: eggs, hash browns, and toast). He was a happy camper. After some blogging, reading, and napping, I made my way back into the kitchen to try out a recipe I found on Skinnytaste earlier in the week.
The recipe is Black Bean, Avocado, Cucumber and Tomato Salad (click the link to go to the Skinnytaste site). Everything about this recipe makes me want to try it. It sounds so fresh and delicious. I have been eating avocados like crazy this week, so I know they are perfect right now.
I cut the recipe in half since it would be just me eating it. Here is what I used for the way I made it:
- 1/2 cucumber, peeled and diced
- 1 medium ripe tomatoes, diced
- 1 hass avocados, diced
- 1/2 can black beans, rinsed and drained
- red onion, minced
- cilantro, minced
- lime juice
- salt and fresh pepper
I use way more onion and cilantro than most people might but I love the flavors. The recipe calls for 1 tbsp. of each (when the recipe is cut in half). I didn’t even measure it, but I would bet I had at least 3 times that.
I just love all the colors of this. I knew as it came together that it was going to be as wonderful as it sounded.
Once it was ready, it was lunch time (great timing!). I decided to have it with tortilla chips and melted cheese. It turned out to be a perfect lunch for a rainy, windy day.
Yesterday, I drove down to Fort Myers with my SIL Jenna for a book launch party at Barnes & Noble. Jenna blogs over at Making The Grade and wanted to meet author Trish Doller whose YA book Something Like Normal just came out. You can read about Trish and her book at her website Trish Writes Books.
Because I have to, I took a picture going over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. I don’t know when I started doing it, but every time I drive over it, I have to take a picture. Weird? Maybe. But no two pictures are ever the same. It was a wet and rainy drive all the way down.
Poor Jenna didn’t feel good when we arrived and I felt so bad for her! Finally, after some food she felt better. We met up with Jenna’s book-blogging friends Sarah and Shanon, and Olivia who doesn’t blog. After an early dinner at Applebee’s, we braved the rain and headed over to Barnes & Noble for the book launch party.
I did not know that Trish actually worked at the B&N that her book launch party was at. How cool is that? She was really nice and I enjoyed listening to her talk about her book (which I can’t wait to read!) and about her writing process, her family, and more. She has a great sense of humor.
After she talked about her book and answered questions, she signed books. I bought one (of course!) and had it signed. Thank you Trish! It was great meeting you!
Trish’s daughter made cupcakes which were color coordinated to the book. They were SO good. I wish I would have gotten a picture of the inside – they were marble with the same color as the icing. I love that Trish had her husband, daughter, and mom there with her.
During the party, it was announced that the tropical depression was now Tropical Storm Debby. That was definitely going to make for an interesting drive home!
The drive home ended up not being too bad. Despite the rain, we actually made it home faster than it took to drive down. It’s not often that I am on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge at night, so this was a fun picture to take…
It was a fun day! Jenna and I make great road-trip companions and I enjoy tagging along with her on these book adventures and meeting new author’s and people. Thanks Jenna!
I finally did it, signed up for what will be my second half-marathon. The Women’s Half Marathon will be in St. Petersburg on November 18th.
I am excited for many reasons. First, I know what to expect this time. When I did my first half, the Rock ‘N Roll, in February, I was all nerves. I went into it unsure of how it would be, could I do it, and would I have fun. Now that I know what to expect and remembering how much I loved it, I am very excited. I knew the minute I finished my first one, that even though I was extremely sore, I was definitely going to do another one.
I am also excited to try and beat my previous time. When I signed up for my first one, I guesstimated it would take me 3:30. I ended up doing it in 3:11:33. This next time, I would be a very happy girl if I could come in just under 3:00. As in 2:59:59 would be fabulous. I never claim to a fast runner and to be honest, I don’t know that I can ever run the entire time. But I’m okay with that. I will run most of it.
Another reason to be excited is that the route for this one is very similar to the last one. Going through downtown St. Petersburg and then along the water, it was very pretty.
Of course, I have to start training soon. I will have to find a way to work around the heat, whether it be early morning runs or later in the evening. I want to give this my all!
I am so excited – and proud of myself – knowing that this girl who used to hate to run and swore she would only run if she was being chased, will run a second half-marathon in the same year. Go me!!
Today, hubby turned 40. I am no longer alone in the land of 40 and I’m very happy about that.
As is typical for us, we went to Kobe’s Japanese Steakhouse for dinner. It’s a favorite of ours for our birthdays and anniversary. It’s a fun time and the food is always good.
I thought for sure we were going to get rained on as we drove to the restaurant. The sky looked very ominous.
I made sure to take a picture of us in the car AND when we got there. I’m pretty sure I drive hubby a little insane with all my picture taking, but he expects it at this point.
I enjoyed a nice glass of white zinfandel to start with. Hubby had chicken and shrimp, and I had filet mignon and shrimp. And we always get double yummy yummy sauce. It was delicious and of course there was too much so we came home with a to-go box.
It was a great evening out. Happy Birthday Honey!! I love you so much!
