Daylight Savings is this weekend which means we will lose an hour of sleep. I don’t know about you, but I treasure every single second of sleep and losing that hour always throws me off.
Many people struggle with sleep issues. Some can’t get to sleep at night, others can’t stay asleep. Or the quality of sleep might not be what it should, if you are restless or something is keeping you up. I never have a problem going to sleep but if I wake up in the middle of the night, I struggle with going back to sleep. There are many factors that can affect your sleep but there are ways to get to sleep and have sweet dreams.
Melatonin. Melatonin is a natural hormone produced by your body that reacts to the darkness and light. When it gets dark, melatonin levels rise and last about 12 hours. When the sun comes up, they decrease. This is one of the many amazing things the body does. But sometimes, we need a little help and thats where taking a Melatonin supplement can help balance your body’s melatonin levels so you can fall asleep and stay asleep. It also offers the following benefits:
- assists in combating sleeplessness, jet lag, and time changes
- promotes a more relaxed and restful sleep
- helps establish normal sleeping pattern
Natrol Melatonin is available in 5mg Fast Dissolve tablets and 10mg tablets. I have taken Melatonin off and on for years when needed and can tell you that it does not have any side effects for me. It does not make me so sleepy that I can’t wake up when I need to, which is a concern for many people. It is not a drug, it is a supplement. For me, it helps me stay asleep through the night and that means my sleep quality is better. Better sleep quality means a much happier me.

Go to bed at the same time every night. I have no shame in admitting that I go to bed early. Usually between 8:30 and 9:00, I am ready for bed. Unless we are out, we go to bed around the same time every night. Your body knows what it needs and for me, it’s early to bed.
Love your space. Keep your bedroom comfortable. Make it a space that you want to go to at the end of the day and get comfortable. Find the right pillow that works for you and splurge on a soft sheets and a blanket you like. The more comfortable you are, the better you will sleep. I love nothing more than crawling into our big bed at night with my favorite pillow.
Keep it cool. Studies show that sleeping in a cool room is better for your health and your quality of sleep. I cannot sleep in a warm room, I will wake up with my nose all stuffy and just not comfortable. We keep our ceiling fan on all the time. I like to be a little on the cold side and snuggle up under the covers.
Wake up the same time every morning. Thanks to our two Australian Shepherds, we have an automatic alarm clock every morning. Long gone are the days of sleeping in on the weekends. But, sleeping in may not be the best thing for you. Just like going to bed around the same time every night, getting up at the same time every morning promotes better sleep.
What is your best tip for a good night’s sleep?
